What is the role of elliptical head?
Elliptical head is an important and indispensable part of pressure vessel equipment in many industries from petrochemical, atomic energy to food and pharmaceutical.
Ellipsoidal head is the end cover on the pressure vessel, which is a main pressure-bearing part of the pressure vessel. It plays the role of sealing.
Firstly, it is made into the upper and lower bottom of the tank-shaped pressure vessel, secondly, when the pipe reaches the end and is not ready to extend forward again, it is sealed with a head in the form of welding the pipe.
The products with similar function of head have blind plate and pipe cap, but those two kinds of products can be disassembled. But the head can not be disassembled after it is welded.

How to weld the elliptical head?
The weld direction requirement when splicing is only allowed to be radial and circumferential. This requirement may be canceled for large pipe caps in the future.
The distance of splicing should be required to be more than 3δ, and not less than 100mm (welding heat-affected zone is a high-stress area, and the chemical composition in the area will be burned.
So avoid the high stress zone, the area is related to the thickness. (According to practical experience, the stress attenuation length is greater than 3δ and not less than 100mm). But refrigeration equipment is difficult to meet this requirement, and has its special characteristics.
After splicing and molding the head, the splicing weld should be 100% ray or ultrasonic testing, and the qualified level goes with the equipment shell. The final molding of the weld seam testing level, the same proportion as the equipment shell.
